Pune: A three-day fellowship certification course of the Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endo Surgeons (IAGES) was held in Pune recently. The programme was organised by IAGES in association with Sahyadri Hospitals and Jt Center for Laparoscopy and Obesity. The course included structured intensive training through lectures, live laparoscopic and endoscopic demonstrations and assessment of candidates.

IAGES West Zone Vice President Dr Jayashree Todkar said around 150 surgeons participated.

“The programme is an ideal platform for upgradation and adoption of advanced skills in a structured manner. It included expert guidance, live surgeries and hands-on training through endo-trainer which is a virtual tool. Many complex cases were operated with advanced laparoscopic techniques by the national team of surgeons. All the patients experienced fast recovery and were ready to go home within 48 hours of operation,” said Dr Todkar.

“Today we are fortunate to have talent, advancements and surgical societies. Many experts and stalwarts are sharing their knowledge with the younger generation,” she said.
